STATUTORY
OBJECTIVES OF THE FUNDATION:
The
statutory objectives of the Fundation is developing and promoting
initiatives, attitudes and actions encouraging community and
economic development as well enhancement in life quality of the
Sokólski region community. This is achieved throughout the range
of services and financing of the activies including:

Social
services, among them support for nursing homes, health
protection and disabled people’s rehabilitation.

Education,
culture, sport and tourism.
-
Environment
protection.
-
Programmes
counteracting the unemployment.
-
Assistance
to families with many children and those in need of financial
assistance in educating children and youth.
-
Improvement
in the infrastructure of the region.

THE
„BEBEFACTOR OF THE YEAR” COMPETITION
The
Sokółka Community Foundation is one of the twelve Local
Philatropic Organisations in Poland. The Community Foundations In
Poland were estabilised between 1998 and 2000 by the initiative of
Akademia Rozwoju i Filantropii (Academy for the Development of
Philantropy In Poland). The Sokółka Community Foundation was
registered on 28th March 2000.
The
Fundation collects capital endowment, subsequently used to fulfil
the needs of the community from scholarschips for talented but
proverty-stricken pupils and students to promoting activites of
the other community organisations.
ASSISTING
FAMILIES WITH ALKOHOLISM AND COUNTERACTING DRUG ADDICTION AMONG
YOUNG PEOPLE
The
Sokółka Community Foundation is the sole organisation which
manages complex assistance programme to families with addictions,
continuing in this respect the work of “Fundusz Pomocy Społecznej”
(Welfare Fund) est. 1992. This programme is executed as a task
commissioned by Sokółka Town Council using The Sokółka
Community Foundation and Town Council’s funds for
“Sloving Alcoholism Problem” Programme.
In
2005 the SCF received 319 000 zł to supervise the programme
including 73 000 zł from the Town Council (23% of all funds).
WORKING
WITH ALCOHOL ADDICTED AND ALCOHOL AFFECTED ADULTS IN SOCIAL AND
THERAPEUTIC CENTRE
Consultations
for addicted and affected as well as violence victims –
every day 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. AA, Al.-Anon meetings – 3
times a week for 2 hours (The Foundation makes its offices
available for the meetings). Family therapy – raising the
problem of mutual trust (group therapy – „Feel, trust,
speak out.”).
BECOMING INDEPENDENT IN A FAMILY
WITH ALCOHOLISM
Running
of a help point for people requiring childminders or assistance
for the elderly by recommending The Centre for Social and
Therapeutic Services proteges for the tasks
Teaching
the Centre proteges and the umployed komputer skills Helping with
writing applications etc.
SUPORTING
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE “CLOVER” CLUB AND THE
SCHOOL
-
Club
actives (game and plays) – every day for 6 hours.

Children
and young people from families with alcoholism therapy 4 times
a week for 2 hours.\
-
Theatre
group – 3 times a week for 2 hours.
-
Homework
help and computer activites
supervised by SCF
scholars – every day for 3 hours.
-
Competitions
on the subject of alkoholism and drug addiction for parents
and children.
-
Prevention
programmes in primary, lower-secondary and upper-secondary
schools („Kiszone Ogórki” – „Picled
Cucumbers”,

„Debata”
– „Debate”, „Korekta” –
„Correction”) – 483 pupils participated.
-
Organisation
of the events involving Barents: Mother’s Day,
Father’s Day,
-
Grandfather’s
Day, Children’s Day, bonfires, Potato Day.
-
Other:
St’ Andrew’s Day, St’ Nicolas Day, Christmas
Party.
-
Organisation
of the summer and wintwer holidays for 40 children.
CIVIL INITIATIVES FUND PROGRAMME
– STOP THE VIOLENCE
The
objective of „Stop the Violence” project was forming
of the coalition among town council members, organisations looking
after the family and non-goverment organisations counteracting the
violence. Its
ambition also to assist violence victims emerging from crisis
situation. We have received 38 340 zł to aid „Stop the
Violenece” Project from Civil Initiatives Fund (Ministry
Social Polisy)
The
programme consisted of:
-

workshops for 100 members of
Town Council on the subject of the prevention of
violence in the family
-
6-week
therapy programme for children – violence victims (2
groups 15 children each)
-
6-week
3 hours a day therapy programme for women – violence
victims (30 womens)
-
Tatra
mountains trip – therapy for 30 mothers and 40 children
-
Distribution
of food for the children from needy families (Food collection
“Share the Meal” – 114 volunteers – 5
tons of food collected in two campaigns.
„PRYMUS” SCHOLARSCHIP
PROGRAMME
„PRYMUS”
scholarship programme is aimed At lower and upper secondary school
pupils from the Town and Municipality of Sokółka and executed
with the assistance of Stefan Batory Foundation’s
“Equal Chances” scholarschip programme.
The objective of the programme is giving equal access to
education for young people
from poverty-stricken families. Throughout scholarschip aid we
wish to improve educational results, thus increasing the number of
young people from the Town and Municipality of Sokółka entering
iniversity by 20% in the next 5 years. The „Prymus”
Scholarschip in the school year 2005/2006 was granted to 43 pupils.
We have also estabilished Motivating Scholarschips for pupils with
Family problems. In the school year 2005/2006 such
scholarschips were awarded to 7 pupils.
Altogether the cholarships were awarded 50 pupils.
BRIDGING
SCHOLARSHIPS
„Bridging
Scholarships” is a joint venture of Polish-American Freedom
Foundation, NBP (National Bank of Poland), and 20 non-government
community organisations recommended by Academy for the Development
of Philantropy in Poland which

SKILLS
WORKSHOP
„Skills
Workshop” is Era Mobile Phone Company and Academy for the
Development of Philantropy in Poland programme.
The
SCF witch Sokółka and Dąbrowa Białostocka Councils and
Powiatowe Centrum Pomocy Rodzinie (The Country Centre for
Assisting the Family) LED the secondo editio of „Skills
Workshop” grant progrsmme in 2005.
It
was aimed At youth organisations and informal youth groups from
the
municipalities of Sokółka and Dąbrowa Białostocka.
Grants Commission distributed 21 subsidies ranging from 1000 to
2000 zł to a total amount of 32 000 zl. The subsidies were
granted to projects involving education, culture, ecology, sport
and social issues of the disabled.
LET’S SHARE THE GREENERY
Let’s share the greenery” project
was accomplished with Batory Foundation programme of “
Partnership of cities and citizens”and financed by Robert
Bosh
Foundation.
Participants of the project were:

The following
actions were fulfilled in 2004-2005:

pupils from both schools examined environmental dangers,

18 pupils from Sokółka and 23 from Rochliz exchanged
experiences on environmental protection

working with Sokółka Town Council pupils catalogued
municipality’s nature

pupils competed in an art competition “
Let’s share the greenery” and literary competition
“Ecology is the choice for the future”
as well as those for slogans and leaflets encouraging
waste segregation,
Act
Locally” is a Polish-American Freedom Foundation programme
administred by Academy for the Development of Philantropy in
Poland and the Sokółka Community Foundation.
The objective of the programme is building active local
communities, where the citizens define problems and try to
counteract or alleviate their results. It is achieved through a local grant competition
in four of the
Sokółka county municipalities.
THE SOKÓŁKA Community Foundation - a public
benefit organization
From 10th March the Sokółka Community
Foundation is a public benefit organisation registred in National
Court Register No.000026308 According to a Public Service Act,
Voluntary Work Act and Income Tax Act, tax
payers can donate 1% of their taxes to public benefit
organisations including our Foundation.
